If you relocate by obtaining a working visa that has been sponsored by a US employer such as L (for intracompany transferees) or E (a treaty traders or treaty investors) , or a J visa, your spouse will be able to applay and receive an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

What would I need for applying for a work permit for my wife?

You will need your marriage certificate, I-94, main applicant’s proof of work (pay slips), 2 passport photos and filling the I-765 form accurately and completely.

When can my wife start working in the US?

It takes around 90 days for the USCIS to approve an Employment Authorization Document. Once approved you will get an email notice, and the card will be mailed to your home address. Note your wife will need the actual EAD card, before she can start working.

How long can my spouse work in the US?

Your spouse’s EAD is valid only as long as the main applicant visa is valid. Once the L/E visa expires the EAD will expire.
